Key West Poker Run - The Annual Key West Poker Run is a motorcycle event the celebrates the gorgeous ride from Miami to Key West via motorcycle. Riders register in Miami and start out on Friday morning of the big weekend. They make five pit stops between Miami and Key West and get one card at each stop. By the time they get to Key West they have a poker hand. The winner gets a prize. This is the bare bones of the event. There are also other fun events worked in, like a Bikini Contest, a Tatoo Contest, parties, Blessing of the Bikes, charity bike washes, and a carnival-like atmosphere on Duval Street on Saturday night. It's fun for the riders and anyone who likes a rowdy good time. Some people come to look at the souped-up vehicles and take pictures at the bike show on Saturday. Others come to party and show off their bikes. Even cars and trucks can buy cards at the designated pit stops along the way. You don't even have to drive from Miami. You can just start out in Key West and buy all five of your cards at the last stop on the run. It's a local bar or restaurant, usually. Winner gets a custom bike. There's also a raffle for a new bike, sponsored by the Rotary Club. The event started out with around 50 riders and now there's around 10,000. It's all sponsored by a Miami Harley dealership. There are Demo Days and a kick-off event at local Miami area locations. |
