Key West has claimed the author as a local hero and most popular resident. His home is a musuem. Both Sloppy Joe's Bar and Captain Tony's Saloon have bult a popular following and made themselves famous as Ernest Hemingway's bar while he lived here.
Hemingway Days is a full week of events like the Hemingway Lookalike Consest, arm-wrestling contests, and a running of the bulls down Duval Street. Most events are centered around Sloppy Joe's Bar, the sponsor of the event. Photographers take note: at noon just before the Running of the Bulls, there's a photo op event in front of Sloppy Joe's. The Papas gather and pose for the good part of an hour and you can get great shots! The Hemingway Lookalike Contests occur at this bar, and Running of the Bulls starts out here as well. These events celebrate the rowdy side of Ernest Hemingway: drinking, bulls, and arm-wrestling. That's Key West style!
Running of the Bulls happens on the final Saturday of the week, and coincides with a street fair on Duval. The street is closed to vehicular traffic and vendors move in for the day. They sell everything from pirate bumper stickers to hot dogs.
