Customs House Museum of Art & History - A building once visited by pirates and politicians alike, it now houses the exhibitions that document the cultural history of the city of Key West. The distinctive coral red color is the well-known trademark of Key West's Customs House and it can be seen from a distance, even when you're on a boat. The sharply-peaked roof is also unusual for Key West, and it exists only because plans for the building mimicked Customs Houses from back North, where snow on the roof is a factor. Well, there's no snow to slide down the roof of the Customs House in Key West, but we love it anyway! |
