Higgs Beach -

Higgs Beach is a well-known beach in Key West, because it's the second largest on the island. Located on the south side of Key West facing the Atlantic Ocean, Higgs Beach has everything you need for a day at the beach. There are picnic tables under cute pavilions for shade, a main pavilion where they have Yoga on Saturday mornings, bathrooms, and places to park. There is local art adorning the picnic huts, in birght colors. The bicycle path around Key West passes right by the beach so it's very convenient to get to and to find. If you drive your car, there are some parking spots right in back of the beach. There's an Italian restaurant on the beach with tables practically right on the sand. At the end of the beach you'll come to White Street Pier. This long pier has recently been re-done and it's lit up at night, it's wide and the end of it expands to an area the size of a small city piazza. People fish off the pier, take walks, or gaze at the ocean. It's lovely. It's one of the nicest spots in Key West for a relaxing stroll. Sometimes you can see ships and smaller boats anchored on the horizon in the darkness, just lights shining to indicate their presence. If you walk inland to the other end of the pier, at the edge of Higgs Beach, there's the Key West AIDS Memorial, which is the grand entrance to White Street Pier.

Higgs Beach can be reached as you enter Key West by following signs that point cars to the Beaches Area. That is, take a left as you enter the island, and drive along South Roosevelt Boulevard going west. If you're in town, just get on White Street and drive to the end of it. White Street runs north-south so if you are driving on an East-West streeet, you'll run across it eventually.
