Where to go Fishing in Key West
Basically, there are three types of fishing to be done around Key West. These are:
- Reef Fishing
Reef fishing will produce anything depending on time of the year. Yellowtail Snapper, Grouper, and in the winter months Mackerel are the usual suspects. Also sharks regularly appear on the reef.
- Flats Fishing
Flats Fishing guides will take you out to get bonefish, tarpon, permit, and sometimes snook in the channels as well.
- Offshore Fishing
Offshore Fishing excursions usually troll for wahoo, dolphin and tuna.
How to go Fishing in Key West
If you didn't bring your own boat, you can hire a guide for a private charter, join a party boat, or rent a boat and venture out on your own. No matter what method you choose for your exciting fishing experience, you'll find that it's easy and simple to get out there and catch some fish. Here's how to do it and where to go:

Charter Boat Row in Key West hosts the largest fleet of offshore fishing boats in Key West. It's easy to find and there's free parking. Located off Truman Ave (Highway 1), on Palm Ave. As you enter Key West, bear right onto North Roosevelt Blvd and continue until Palm Ave. Take a right, then your first right and this will take you under the overpass to Charter Boat Row. Walk the dock and view rows of offshore Key West fishing boats as well as smaller fishing boats. This is also where you can pick up a half-day party fishing boat and evening party fishing boats.

Walk the docks along the northwestern edge of Key West, near Old Town and you'll see plenty of fishing guides. They put signs in front of their charter boats telling what they fish for, and when they go out.
