North of Key West their is a channel connecting to the gulf , its called Calda Channel. Its kind of interesting because it runs right through some really shallow ocean flats, and at low tide the flats just about stick out of the water.
It common to see dolphins running around the mouth of the channel, and mid way through the channel there is a sand bar where people park their boats. Lately it has been a very popular place to go kite boarding.
